Greek word for ""claw"" or ""fingernail" The myth of the origin of onyx says that the goddess Venus was resting on the banks of the Indus River. As she slept, Cupid used the point of one of his enchanted arrows to give her a manicure. The parings of her nails then fell into the waters of the sacred river. Since the nails were of heavenly origin, they sank to the river bottom and were metamorphosed into onyx.

SUNSTONE
In the early 1800s sunstone was a little-known, rare, and costly gemstone. It wasn’t until finds in Norway, Siberia, and other parts of the World, ”According to Native American legend, the blood of a great warrior – wounded by an arrow - dropped onto pieces of Oregon sunstone. The blood carried his warrior spirit into the stones, coloring them with shades of red and giving them sacred power” A museum in Jacksonville, Oregon, includes sunstones in its display of Indian artifacts. In Oregon today, several mining claims produce enough of this unique material to supply mass marketers as well as carvers and high-end jewelry designers.

Hematite has a metallic like color and it range from black, grey and silver, along with more reddish-brown varieties. Hematite is also called the iron Rose and has been associated with magic and blood. It´s a very heavy stone and is often found in rocks and soil.
